Laurel Adocacy & Referral Services, Inc. (LARS)
Laurel Adocacy & Referral Services, Inc. provides support services and outreach to homeless individuals and families under a grant from the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Some of the support services provided include case management, employment assistance, first month’s rent, transportation, and birth certificate fees. LARS also conducts intake assessments for winter shelter participants on behalf of local congregations. Shepherd’s Cove Shelter for Women & Children
Since 2004, United Communities Against Poverty (UCAP) has managed Shepherd’s Cove Emergency Shelter for women and children in Prince George’s County, Maryland in partnership with the Prince George’s County Department of Social Services. Our 100–bed emergency facility is operated and monitored 24 hours a day, 365 days a year by caring professionals. Our case management staff uses the Continuum of Care Model, which helps to effectively coordinate and link clients to resources. Our primary goal is to provide a clean and safe environment for our residents with the ultimate goal of their obtaining transitional or permanent housing.
